3 Ways to help your child deal with Bullying

March 10, 2008 · No Comments

**  School Violence and bullying - it happens too often these days, especially in a place where it is supposed to be safe for children to obtain their education.  Bullying occurs mainly in school environments and they are normally incidents that become more than just horseplay, “good” teasing, or “scraps” between equal peers.  Bullying has become a major problem in our schools and this must stop.  Bullying is not someone else’s problem — in order to stop bullying, all of us, teachers, parents, school authorities, and the children need to play a responsible role.  We need to take a zero tolerance stand on this issue now.

**  Be a good listener

**  Don’t Overreact

**  Don’t teach your child to use violence to retalliate the bully

Here are some articles I thought summarizes this issue and provides good resources for us about bullying:

**  Parent’s Primer on School Bullying

**  Headliners: Learning How to Beat the Bully

**  Bullying Prevention in Schools : Executive Summary-Government of Canada’s National Crime Prevention Strategy

Do you have any ideas or strategies to beat bullies?  Share your story or suggestions

(at least) 3 things I am grateful for

March 3, 2008 · No Comments

After 2 separate trips to the Alberta Children’s ER with 2 different children, I have add to my list of LISTS a daily gratitude list.  I have finally realized the profound impact of such a list…especially during those “down” times.

Here are the 3 things that I am grateful for:

**  There is universal health care for my children.

**  My children’s laughter and the way they say “I love you mommy”

**  We have a roof over our head, clothes on our back and family to share our moments of fears, joys and happiness.

Do you have a daily gratitude list?  If not, start one!!
